What is FLOW?
FLOW has been created to support Foreign Language Instruction at MIT to provide language instructors with a simple and productive environment for collaborating and keeping classroom resources organized. Using FLOW you can share classroom and homework exercises, web sites, and worksheets that you have found useful. With FLOW you can see the kinds of tools that other instructors have found beneficial in their classes. FLOW creates a community where instructors can post problems or questions to solicit feedback from peers. FLOW can enhance your teaching experience by simplifying access to and organization of your materials and offering you a wealth of useful information in a single environment. Why should I use FLOW?
1. Build organizational knowledge - as people transition through FL&L, we lose valuable teaching experiences, exercises, and tools. In order to remain at the forefront of language teaching, FLOW can help us to collect ideas, so that we move forward, reflect and continue to innovate.
2. Share techniques - to excel in our academic mission, it is essential we learn from each other's teaching experiences. Share your experiences on FLOW and we can learn more efficiently what works and why.
3. Solve problems - do you have teaching questions that keep recurring? are you looking for a specific tool? Post your problem on FLOW and get feedback from colleagues. Over time, this will become an invaluable resource, capturing the collective knowledge of the department.
4. Simplify, and stay organized - as a dedicated repository for your teaching materials, this site will keep your documents online and easy to find. Any time, from anywhere, you can retrieve your documents to revise and print them for students, or to put them on a course web site.
5. Build your portfolio - keep your activities, documents and resources together on FLOW in a streamlined and simple format. FLOW will help you prepare a portfolio or presentation materials.
